AUSTIN, TX, Dec. 9, 2015 — NetSpend announced the return of its popular community event, Community Connect. The event in its fifth year, provides NetSpend employees with the opportunity to get out in to the community with two goals in mind:
- To spend time using their prepaid debit cards in the “real” world and understanding the impact it has on their cardholders.
- To make a positive impact within their community by doing things like:
- Buying groceries
- Filling up a gas tank
- Paying a phone bill
- Or…just a random act of kindness
“NetSpend and our sponsor companies will give over $30,000 to individuals in our communities,” said NetSpend President Chuck Harris. “We opted to forgo the traditional Christmas party and put our talents and efforts to use by giving something back to the community.”
This year’s Community Connect will be NetSpend’s biggest to date and will set a record for the number of external participants which will include partners and sponsors. Additionally, invites have been extended to members of Congress to participate in the life-changing event.
This year’s event will be broken into two sessions, a morning and an afternoon session, with multiple teams of NetSpenders, sponsors and others taking to the streets of Austin to give back. NetSpend’s Atlanta, Georgia and San Mateo, California locations, will also participate in Community Connect, with teams headed out to their respective communities.
However Community Connect is not limited to just “stateside” activity this year. NetSpend’s operations in India have embraced the mission of the event and while they could not duplicate the structure of the traditional Community Connect event in India, they have chosen to donate books for the underprivileged children studying in charitable schools. The event in India will take place on December 10th as well and over 1,100 books will be donated. The books were carefully selected by teachers and academic directors which and will encourage and motivate strong reading habits in the children.
“We are passionate about improving the lives of our customers, and we get just as inspired by the people we meet in our community,” said Harris. “It is our way of saying thanks and it really is our favorite event of the year.”
